VISITING THE NATIONAL STEAM CENTRE

A visit to the National Steam Centre will delight a wide audience from the pre-schooler obssesed with Thomas and train rides, to enthusiasts with a deep interest in vintage machinery or those fascinated by how 150 years of mechanisation have changed our lives.

Opening times

The museum is open for viewing each Saturday and Sunday from 11am - 4pm (except the Christmas - New Year period.).

TRAIN RIDES SUNDAYS ONLY

Thursdays are volunteers' work days and visitors are welcome to call in.

For visitors unable to attend on open days arrangements can often be made for other times. The engines are operated on rundays on the last Sunday of each month (except December).

Entry Prices

Except for special events Admission is by donation.

The club does not have any government funding and relies on membership fees and donations so please put something in the donation box to help us keep this facility operating.

Getting There

Access is easy: It is adjacent to the Eastlink freeway on Ferntree Gully Rd.

via Eastlink(M3) (take the Ferntree Gully Rd Exit)

via the Monash freeway (M1) outbound (take the FTree Gully exit and proceed about 5 km along Ferntree Gully Rd till you come to the grounds on your right at the eEastlink freeway).

via the Monash freeway inbound get onto Eastlink exiting at Ferntree Gully Rd or if you want to avoid the toll exit at the Stud Rd exit turning right into Stud Rd then turn left into Ferntree Gully Rd and proceed a couple of kilometres. The grounds are on the left just after you pass under the Eastlink Freeway.

If You don't have an Etag You can pay your toll online either before or up to a couple of days after you travel at Eastlink or Citylink

Public Transport

Two bus routes run past the steam centre. One is the Belgrave - Oakleigh Bus Route 693 You can catch it in the Belgrave direction from Oakleigh Station on the Pakenham line or in the Oakleigh direction from Ferntree Gully Station on the Belgrave line. The other, Bus route 753 runs between Glen Waverley and Boronia railway stations.

Both services run hourly over the weekends.

Facilities

The grounds have been developed into a very pleasant park with picnic tables, a gas fired BBQ and shade trees.

Food and coffee are only available for purchase on site on the end of month running days and over the Steamfest rally weekend.

Most areas of he site are wheel chair accessible and disabled toilet facilities are available.
