Mobile Steam
This exhibit showcases a range of equipment, including steam trucks from manufacturers like Sentinel, Yorkshire, and Foden, as well as old ploughing engines, such as a pair of impressive Fowler Z7 engines originally used for the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme. These mobile exhibits are often operational, with many seen in action during the annual Steamfest rally and on monthly run days.
The collection also features a variety of other engines that were built to be moved, including about half a dozen traction engines, some of which are undergoing restoration by club members. The exhibit highlights several steam rollers, such as the club’s Marshall steam roller and an American Buffalo Springfield roller. Additionally, the sheds house numerous portable steam engines from brands like Marshall, Clayton & Shuttleworths, and Buffalo Pitts, alongside three unique “Aussie engines” manufactured locally by Thomson & Co, Johnson and Sons, and Herbert Thomson.

This impressive pair of Fowler Z7 ploughing engines came to Australia to aid the construction of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme. One was purchased by MSTEC in 1971 the other belongs to a club member.
The club’s Marshall steam roller is often to be seen in steam on run days. At rally times it is joined by a club member’s Fowler roller.
There are three locally made portables at the club. One is a Thomson & Co made in Castlemaine.
